The
Greater Groblerdal Local Municipality. An Assessment of Sustainable
Characteristics in Local Economic Development Initiatives
Barbara Nompumelelo Tapela / UNDP / 2002
"This report presents an assessment of the incorporation of
sustainability principles into the ongoing and emerging Local Economic
Development (LED) initiatives located within the prioritised developmental
nodes of the Greater Groblersdal Cross-Border Municipal Area.[...]. The
LED initiatives are examined in terms of the sustainability principles
stipulated by the ISRDP and through the perspective of the unfolding
municipal IDP process. The report gives particular attention to the level
of active participation by local civil society structures in the project
formulation and implementation processes. The analysis component of the
study focuses on the impediments affecting the incorporation of
sustainable development principles within the planning and implementation
of the projects listed above. Finally, the report identifies potential
strategies aimed at overcoming these impediments."
